How to install and setup WhatsApp

WhatsApp has been approved as a communication avenue for Emergency Operations.  This article will walk you through installing the app on either your Android Phone or iPhone and setting it up for minimum information sharing.

Android Instructions

Android

1. First you will need to download the app from the app store.  Simply search for WhatsApp and it should be the first result:

 

2. Then open the app to start the setup:

 

3. At a minimum, you will need to input your phone number for the app to communicate with others (it will ask you to confirm the number after inputting):

 

4. The app will then ask if you wish to import your contacts.  For CBC purposes, it is recommended you do NOT do so, but you may do so if you wish:

 

5. The final step is to add your name and a profile picture if you wish (the picture is not required):

 


iPhone

1. Search for WhatsApp on the app store.  Select the Messenger version:

 

2. Once it's downloaded and installed, open up the app:

 

3. You will need to share at a minimum your phone number and name in order to use the app. Select to allow notifications and then enter your number.  You will need to verify your number when it asks:

 

4. Enter your name when it asks:

 

5. The app will then ask if you wish to import your contacts.  For CBC purposes, it is recommended you do NOT do so, but you may do so if you wish:

 

6. You are now ready to use WhatsApp.
