Step 1. Sign into TextAid.
Step 2. Add ReadSpeaker to your internet browser.
Step 3. Navigate to your online (browser-based) textbook and start listening.
Sign into your CBC Canvas account using your single sign-on username and password.
Note: Use your full CBC student email address (including the @students.columbiabasin.edu) to sign in.
Find the TextAid icon on the Canvas Global Navigation menu at the very left of the screen. TextAid is located near the bottom above the Help icon. Click the icon.
To continue and use ReadSpeaker with TextAid, you must read and agree to the terms of use by clicking the green I accept the terms button. You may also cancel if you do not agree and do not wish to use ReadSpeaker.

Sign into TextAid by following the steps in Step 1. You will be brought to the TextAid home screen.
On the TextAid home screen, find the Web Reading icon on the TextAid navigation menu.
Don't see Web Reading in the left column? Click the vertical ellipsis (three dots) on the lower left to see additional tools. In the fly-out menu, choose Web Reading.
On the Web Reading page, click Desktop.
From the list, the browser you use: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or Other Browser.
In this example, we will install for Google Chrome. The instructions are similar for Edge and Firefox.
Click on the link: ReadSpeaker TextAid for Chrome in the Google Chrome store.
Click Add extension.
The extension will be added to your extension tray at the top right corner of your web browser. In Chrome and Edge, you must "pin" or "show" the extension in the extension tray.
Click the puzzle piece to open the extensions menu. Then, click ReadSpeaker TextAid from the list of extensions. Click the pushpin (in Chrome) or the eyeball (in Edge) to display the extension.
Your extension will now be visible at all times in your browser.

To use the ReadSpeaker TextAid Browser Extension, you must be logged in to TextAid. If you are not logged in to TextAid, you will get the following error:
Authorization issue: You must be logged into TextAid as a licensed user for this extension.
Because Columbia Basin College ReadSpeaker TextAid accounts are linked to Canvas, you cannot log in by using the TextAid sign-in screen. If you attempt to log in this way, you will receive an error message. Instead, you will log in to your CBC Canvas account and click on the TextAid icon on the Canvas Global Navigation Menu. You will be brought to the TextAid home screen. At this point, you are signed in.
The ReadSpeaker TextAid Browser Extension controls will open.
From left to right across the top row:
Move arrows: position player where you want it on your page.
Listen commands: Listen, play/pause, stop - easy to use listen commands.
Close player: click to close player.
From left to right across the bottom bar:
Settings: adjust highlighting colors.
Reading speed: adjust reading speed.
Reading language: change reading language to document language.
Writing assistance: reads as you type in Google docs and MS Word Online.
Snapshot: Highlight image with text to have read aloud.
ReadSpeaker.com: link to ReadSpeaker.com.
Finally, open the webpage for the online textbook you would like to read. ReadSpeaker can read aloud online textbooks that open in your Internet browser. Highlight text you would like ReadSpeaker TextAid to read aloud to you. Remember: The extension requires that you make a text selection to begin listening. Happy listening!
