Access Pearson: Replacement for MyLab and Mastering

What is Access Pearson?

Access Pearson is a digital teaching and learning platform that provides homework, tutorial, and assessment products and integrates easily into Canvas. In addition to Pearson MyLabs & Mastering, CBC EdTech also added Access Pearson to the Canvas navigation as of December 8th, 2023. Pearson recommends transitioning to the newer LTI 1.3. If interested, here is a short document that explains why companies are moving to LTI 1.3 to offer a more secure and stable integration (connection). For specifics, see this article: "Why Platforms and Tools Should Adopt LTI 1.3."

All Pearson assignments, quizzes, and content will continue to exist in Pearson, which can then be linked to the newly updated Access Pearson in your Canvas course.

What are the benefits of Access Pearson?

  • Automatic Grade Sync
  • Assignment linking
  • Create links for all your assignments by syncing grades and then adding the links to your modules.
  • Enhanced privacy and security
  • Increased reliability
  • Single sign-on (SSO)

Transitioning to the new Pearson Integration

Pearson recommends that instructors move to Access Pearson. No date has been set yet for when MyLab & Mastering will no longer be available. EdTech has made Access Pearson available at this early juncture. In response to an inquiry about when MyLab might be discontinued, a 2025 date was given, but the best practice at this time is to begin transitioning because the LTI 1.3 integration is better.

Important Note: If using Access Pearson and you are copying your Canvas course, please delete the previous Pearson links that copy over, such as former integration links, deep links to assignments, as well as grade columns for Pearson assignments (There is no need to remove your other grade columns). This will prevent duplicates from appearing in your new Canvas course. Please refer to Pearson's transition support documentation.
