Clearing Internet Browser Cache

 

Overview

When you encounter issues in Canvas or another educational technology tool in your internet browser, try clearing your cache. Oftentimes, this will help. If you contact EdTech, this is the first thing we will ask you to do. This article shows you how to do it yourself. Choose your browser from the list below.

Google Chrome

You can clear cache in Google Chrome using either keyboard shortcuts (faster) or step by step with a mouse, trackpad, or screen reader. Here's how.

Clear Cache Using Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Open the Google Chrome internet browser.
  • On your keyboard, press CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE.
  • The "Clear browsing data" dialog box opens.
  • At the top, select the time range "All time."
  • Check the box next to "Cached images and files."
  • Click "Clear data."

Note: You do not need to clear the browsing history or cookies to clear cache. Be careful! If you delete cookies, you will be signed out of your accounts on various services online and will need to sign in again.

Clear Cache Step by Step

  • Open the Google Chrome internet browser.
  • In the top right corner of the browsing window, click the vertical ellipsis. It looks like this: .
  • Select History. The History submenu will appear.
  • Select History on the submenu that has appeared.
  • In the left side of the History tab, select Clear browsing data.
  • The Clear browsing data dialog box opens.
  • At the top, select the time range All time.
  • Check the box next to Cached images and files.
  • Click Clear data.

Note: You do not need to clear the browsing history or cookies to clear cache. Be careful! If you delete cookies, you will be signed out of your accounts on various services online and will need to sign in again.

Microsoft Edge

You can clear cache in Microsoft Edge using either keyboard shortcuts (faster) or step by step with a mouse, trackpad, or screen reader. Here's how.

Clear Cache Using Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Open the Microsoft Edge internet browser.
  • On your keyboard, press CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE.
  • The Clear browsing data dialog box opens.
  • At the top, select the time range All time.
  • Check the box next to Cached images and files.
  • Click Clear data.

  • In the top right corner of the browsing window, click the ellipsis. It looks like this: … .
  • Select History. The History submenu will appear. Again, select the ellipsis. The History page will open in a new tab.
  • Along the option on the top, select the rightmost option, select Clear browsing data.
  • The Clear browsing data dialog box opens.
  • At the top, select the time range All time.
  • Check the box next to Cached images and files.
  • Click Clear data.

Mozilla Firefox

Clear Cache Using Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Open the Mozilla Firefox internet browser.
  • On your keyboard, press CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE.
  • The Clear Recent History dialog box opens.
  • At the top, select the time range All time.
  • Check the box next to Cache.
  • Click Clear Now.

Clear Cache Step by Step

  • Click the menu button . Select Settings.
  • Select the Privacy & Security panel. Navigate to the Cookies and Site Data section.
  • Click the Clear Data button. The Clear Data dialog will appear.
  • At the top, select the time range All time.
  • Check the box next to Cache.
  • Click Clear Now.

Note: You do not need to clear the browsing history or cookies to clear cache. Be careful! If you delete cookies, you will be signed out of your accounts on various services online and will need to sign in again.
