User Guide for Windows Upgrades

Upgrading to Windows 10

Note:  This process typically takes 60 to 120 minutes to complete.  To reduce the disruption and help ensure that the process completes successfully, please begin it just prior to leaving work for the day.

  1. Print out this document for reference before continuing.
  2. Disconnect any USB storage devices (including flash/thumb and external hard drives)
  3. Restart the computer (Important, please do not skip this step).
  4. Click on the Windows start button in the bottom-left corner.

     
  5. Type “Software Center” in the search bar and click the program to start it.

     
  6. Click “Operating Systems” on the left side of the window and then “Windows 10 x64 21H2 Upgrade in the center of the window. It may take a minute or two for this to appear.

     
  7. Click “Install” in the center of the window.

     
  8. A window will appear asking for confirmation. Click “Install” again to proceed. After a few moments another window will pop up that shows progress of the upgrade process.

 

No further action is required. The upgrade process will take some time to finish and the computer may restart several times. Please do not use the computer or turn it off until the upgrade process is complete.
